One of my “go-to’ techniques for creating wooden signs is called “Faking Patina”. A friend of mine, Denise Nelson, showed me how to make new wood look like aged and colorful. I recently created a video tutorial on this technique as I added a little twist to her original technique. It provides a unique (until everyone and their mother catches on), colorful, and “aged” finish to your wood. You can achieve this style background by slathering many layers of paint on, and then sanding the heck out of it, followed by a nice staining of your wood and one extra step. Check out the video tutorial below, and if you love this technique, share it with others or pin it to your favorite pinterest board for “Safe keeping!”
